The MLM Marketing Mindset and Understanding your consumer
So what is the MLM marketing mindset or any marketing mindset that you will need to know and how will understanding the consumer will help you to be successful in your MLM business. Knowing and understanding the consumer side of sales and the way a consumer looks at things as opposed to how a marketer looks at things is key to the success of your network marketing career.
As a consumer a consumer is always looking for something that will benefit them. It’s the old “WIIFM” A consumer is not concerned on how it affects the sales person or manufacturer, a consumer is only concerned with
“ What’s in it for me”
This is known as self-interest and is responsible for competition in the market place. If one knows they can truly get the same exact product at another location what would you do? Well out of concern for themselves they will go to where they feel they will get a better deal. Other things that are considered is if they know that company “X” has superior customer service to Company “Y”what would they do? They would most likely purchase from Company “X” of course, the reason being is because they know if there is anything wrong with what they purchased that is would be handle appropriately by that company and once again illustrating, it is in their best interest.
This is something that is easy to understand. It is your money and you get to decide what to do with “Your” money. It is only natural for you to want to spend your money where you feel you will get the best value, be it cost, customer service and just superior value. That’s the consumer’s choice.
So what is the Correct Mindset for an MLM Marketer?
On the other hand as a Network Marketer you need to understand it’s not about you. It’s not about what you need or what you think your consumer needs. In the network marketing industry many use the wrong approach when trying to share the product or the opportunity. Have you ever used phrases like this.
- I have this new product that I want you to see or
- You have got to see this new service I am using.
- You have to make some time for me I have to show you something.
- This is the greatest thing ever
- I am feeling so much better now, you have got to start taking this right now.
Every one of these statement are statements used by new entrepreneurs and yet they do not take into consideration the needs of their customer only the needs of themselves and what they want to sell, be it the product or the opportunity.
All these statement are based on the selfishness of the entrepreneur. Not one of these statements takes into consideration the consumer side of things. Its’ all about ME ME ME
Dale Carnegie said in How To Win Friend and Influence People “help enough people get what they want and you will get what you want” This is the shift you need to make as an entrepreneur and especially in your network marketing business. Help people get what they want by using your product or service or by helping them meet a need or desire that they have and then you will have a successful MLM business.
To shift out of self-interest and into the correct marketing mindset you have to understand the consumer and understand where a consumer’s self-interest comes from. Your potential consumer or business associate will have problems, needs and wants. If they already had what they needed there would be no need for them to go to the market place to find it. Well these underlining needs and wants are the underlining needs for the consumer. Theses problem, needs and wants must be satisfied.
The second part of a consumer thinking is how does this particular product or service satisfy their problems, needs and wants ?
A product may have many features such as fast internet access, ability to store thousands of photos, the ability to play all your favorite music and games. These are all features set up by the manufacturer. The features are the items that will give benefit to the consumer. The real benefit for the consumer would be things such as being able to access all your contacts with just a touch of a button, surf the internet and bringing access to the entire world through your fingertips. You will never be out of reach of the photos of your children and grandchildren or your most important medical professional if ever an emergency arises. Oh and by-the-way you will never be lost with your convenient always with you GPS where you will be able to produces maps and get voice commands with step-by step directions to any destination in the world . All these benefits are instant and right at your fingertips in one compact tool called the IPhone that can be carried around in your pocket or purse. These are all the BENEFITS that the consumer will realize if they have an Iphone. So what are the BENEFITS that you are offering?
What you need to describe is how the features of your product or opportunity will help the consumer or your prospect so you must structure your language to the consumers point of view. You need to discuss how the features satisfy the consumer’s problems, needs and wants. This is what you will need to do to shift to the marketing mindset recognizing the self-interest of the consumer and how you cater to their needs
As an entrepreneur you need to know the needs and wants of your prospect. You need to know what benefits they are seeking and you need to know how your products and your services can satisfy their problems needs and wants. When you stay focused, ask questions and listen you will be clear on what you are doing, and how and what you have to do next. This is the winner’s formula to understanding the consumers’ needs and maintaining the
MLM Marketing Mindset for success.
