In a recent interview with Mike Dillard, Mike actually stated that when he started in network marketing he was petrified of the phone. Can you image Mike Dillard – “The God Father of Attraction Marketing” actually being afraid to talk people on the phone. Well I guess in Mike’s earlier days he had a conflict going on within him that many of you may experience when being involved in a network marketing business. The conflict was between what his goals were and what he was doing to achieve his goals. You may see network marketing as this great vehicle to get out of the “corporate con game” and the dead end job that you might be in right now, but you have not yet developed the desire or have received the right training to actually find the success that you know is just waiting for you. You see Mike always had the dream of being an entrepreneur and enjoying the freedoms that independence brings, but his actions were more around procrastination than the actions needed to create the success he dreamed of. As Mike began to realize this, he knew he had to do something about this. Mike did eventually do something about his fears and his procrastination. It did take him four years but how you can see him as a highly successful entrepreneur and a person who is always willing to help others learn the skills to succeed in the network marketing industry.

In today’s world so many see Mike Dillard as this invisible person who has attained so much success on the internet and in network marketing but in order for Mike to stop being afraid of the phone he had to do something about it. What he did was he actually took on a corporate job many years ago where he would have to make 300 cold calls a day. This definitely cured him of his fear of talking to people on the phone. That was a major break through and learning experience for Mike but he also realized that he had to keep on increasing his skills in order to become the person worthy of his dreams.

Mike quickly realized he had to keep learning if he wanted to be successful. He had the foresight to realize that Network Marketing was about marketing and people so he began to study both these subjects. He studied marketing greats like Dan Kennedy and learned that he had to go after people who were already buying what he had to offer. This lead him to starting to called other network marketers from genealogy list, knowing that network marketers were his target market. In his attempt to do this and after calling about 300 plus network marketers he realize that there way no way he would spend the rest of his life calling genealogy list. So he was faced with another dilemma and wondered – how can I get people to call me? If he could just find 5 to 10 people per day to call him instead of him chasing them that would be the answer.

So Mike began to look to the internet to accomplish this. He began to learn about capture pages and writing good ad copy. He also realized that he had to offering value to others if he was going to attract 5 to 10 people to him each and every day. This was the beginning of what is now know as Magnetic Sponsoring. In applying this principle he really started to find a system that worked for him and began to put it into a book. This book was mostly for the use of his team in his primary network marketing company but it has turned into a great learning tool for hundreds of thousands of people.

This was a big revelation for Mike and as he began to grow a huge downline he realized that the product you are marketing really doesn’t matter, but instead it’s really all about you and your posture. People will join you in your business because they perceive value from you and that you have the knowledge and skills to teach them something which will enable them to achieve the same success. Mike talks about posture and not giving your power away. He also says that when you are on the phone your should always come from the place of knowing where you are going and that you are not needy for anyone to join your company but instead come from a place of abundance. Mike stresses that you have to get on the phone if you want to be successful in network marketing. He went on to say that although we may have all the skills and are proficient at the tools of the internet with the autoresponders, tracking, article submitters, and PPC, all that really doesn’t work unless you pick up the phone and contact people and talk with them. Network marketing is a people business. Period! It’s about marketing and it’s about people. You must take on the role of being a leader in your field and learn these skills.

It’s important to find and learn from a leader until you can step into the role of the leader. In today’s economy with people losing their jobs and so many looking to the internet to learn to supplement their incomes network marketer’s have the biggest opportunity ever to capitalize on growing huge downlines. This is why if you want to be successful in network marketing you have to become that leader so people will seek you out. As people begin to follow you, you will have to be willing to get on the phone and call them. Mike Dillard has shared so much with us over the years but really network marketing is about 3 three things – learning how to market, choosing to become a leader, and getting on the phone and talking to people. It’s just a matter of choosing to become bigger. Mike Dillard took on the mindset to learn all he could to be successful and so can you. Have the attitude that you are going to do what it takes. Learn the skills, become that leader and have people chasing you to join your business and ride the wave of success in The Business of The 21st Century – Network Marketing.
